Help Save Amber’s Life as She Faces an Aggressive Cancer Diagnosis

Amber has spent her entire life showing up for others—with courage, compassion, and service that has touched countless lives. Today, she is facing the fight of her life, and she needs all of us to help her continue it.

Amber was initially diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer at the age of 32 in 2015. The cancer had progressed and she was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in 2016. She beat the odds twice, achieving remission through sheer strength and relentless determination. But this year, everything changed. After months of escalating scans and appointments, doctors found a new tumor in her sacral bone and lesions affecting her spinal cord and nerve root. Specialists believe this is leptomeningeal disease—an aggressive and fast-moving cancer that impacts the brain, spinal cord, and cerebrospinal fluid. Final confirmation is pending, but her team has urged us to prepare for treatment immediately.

Leptomeningeal disease requires highly specialized care, rapid intervention, and treatment options that fall outside what insurance fully covers. To give Amber the best chance at extended time—and possibly life-saving responses—we need to act quickly.

The Financial Reality
Amber is medically retired, and her wife, Celena, has temporarily stepped away from her job to care for her full-time. This means their household income is extremely limited at a time when medical costs are rising at a staggering pace.

To pursue the treatments, consultations, supportive care, and out-of-pocket medical interventions that could extend Amber’s life, we need to raise upwards of $500,000.

This includes:
  • Specialized oncology and neuro-oncology treatment
  • Out-of-network and experimental care options
  • Travel to specialists and hospitals for procedures
  • Lost income so Celena can remain by Amber’s side

This amount is overwhelming for any family—especially one facing a diagnosis with so many unknowns. But as a community, we can help lift this tremendous weight so Amber can focus on fighting, healing, and holding on to hope.

A Lifetime of Service
If you know Amber, you know she has never hesitated to give—her time, her strength, her heart, and her service.

  • Enlisted at 17, US Army; deployed during 9/11
  • Served in Operation Iraqi Freedom
  • Named 501st MP Company Soldier of the Year (2002)
  • Exposed to burn pits—now believed to be the cause of her cancer
  • ICU and critical care RT/VAS; frontline COVID provider at Mayo Clinic
  • Volunteer with Street Dog Coalition, Veterans Stand Down, Team RWB, Toys for Tots, Veterans Community Project, Bikers for Boobies
  • Undefeated boxer, soccer player and coach, dragon boater, triathlete and former DARE instructor

Amber has spent decades saving lives, protecting others, and strengthening her community.

Now, she needs that same support—urgently.
