My name is Shekoya Gordon, and I am writing to you today from the Bronx with a heavy heart and a sense of urgency I can hardly describe. My father, Alfien “Al” Gordon, is currently in a medical crisis. He has been diagnosed with advanced Peripheral Vascular Disease, and because he has no medical insurance, the life-saving surgery he needs is completely out of reach.
A Lifetime of Giving
Many of you know Al as a pillar of the Mount Vernon community. He grew up on those streets, attended elementary through high school there, and eventually went to college in New York City. My father gave his hard work, his heart, and his life to this country and to the city of Mount Vernon. He raised me with the values of discipline and dignity, showing me every day that no hard day was wasted if it was for the ones you love.
Why This is Critical
The medical reality is devastating. Recent imaging shows:
* A complete blockage of the main artery behind his knee.
* An aneurysm that is at risk of rupture.
* Severely restricted blood flow that is literally starving his tissues of oxygen.
Without Vascular Bypass Surgery, we aren't just looking at the loss of a limb—we are looking at the potential loss of his life.
