Dear Friends, Family, and Kind-Hearted Strangers,
My name is Bernard Anderson, and I am humbly reaching out for your support during the most critical challenge of my life.
For the past 30 years, I’ve been fighting Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), a chronic kidney disease that has now progressed to a life-threatening stage. After a hard-fought journey, my first kidney transplant gave me the chance to live life fully again. Unfortunately, my condition has worsened, and now I desperately need a second kidney transplant to survive.
Despite my strength and determination, this is a battle I cannot win alone. I’m reaching out to you, hoping for help — whether through financial assistance, sharing my story, or, for those willing, considering becoming a living donor.
Why I Need Your Help
Because I do not qualify for Medicaid, my out-of-pocket costs for this life-saving procedure and post-transplant care are overwhelming. Even with employer insurance, I am responsible for:
20% of the transplant cost.
25% of the specialty medications I will need for the rest of my life.
Pre- and post-surgery expenses, including lodging, transportation, and follow-up care.
Altogether, my out-of-pocket costs are estimated at $20,132.97, and I’ve already depleted my savings from my first transplant.
How Your Support Will Be Used
Your generosity will directly fund:
Medical bills and immunosuppressant medications.
Out-of-pocket doctor visits and deductibles.
Transportation, lodging, and other transplant-related costs.
Dialysis expenses if I cannot find a donor in time.
Awareness efforts like flyers, car decals, and even a potential billboard to help find a donor.
How You Can Help
1. Donate: Every dollar brings me closer to this life-saving procedure.
2. Share: Spreading the word through your network could lead to a miracle.
3. Consider Living Donation: If you or someone you know might be willing to donate a kidney, please contact me directly for more information.
The Gift of Life
A living donor could save my life and give me the future I’m desperately hoping for. My medical team at the University of Kentucky and Cleveland Clinic will guide any potential donor through the process to ensure it is as safe and informed as possible.
Thank you for taking the time to hear my story and for any support you can provide. Your kindness, whether through a donation, sharing this campaign, or keeping me in your thoughts, means the world to me.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Bernard Anderson
