The Protect Audley Parish Green Belt (P.A.P.G.) campaign group was formed in January 2022 when NULBC first published their ideas of how they visualise Newcastle Borough and Audley Parish over the next 20 years
PAPG has grown from a small group of local residents with regular day jobs to over 1200 who oppose inappropriate development in our Parish
The proposal that has brought us all together in sheer horror, is the size of the proposed development not only in Audley Parish but the surrounding area plus Red Street & Talke.
The colossal scale of the proposed site as Junction 16 of the M6, aka AB2 will irrevocably change the area for ever and not in a good way. There will be increased traffic, noise and pollution from the hundreds of lorries and cars that will use this site 24 hours day/7 days a week! However, these problems will not only affect the residents local to the site but everyone who lives in the wider area The knock on effects of having a large area of concrete and tarmac where fields used to be will be felt for miles around in some surprising ways that have been overlooked by the planners. We the people who live in this area and know it the best need to make them aware and make them listen.
And in addition, they are proposing to build 270 new homes, again on green belt land, increasing the size of Audley and Bignall End by over 600 (270 x national household average of 2.4) people and putting additional pressure on our infrastructure which is already struggling to cope.
St Modwen, the developers for AB2 have a team of experts who are producing favourable reports to support their project. We need to employ our own professionals to counter their arguments and show the council and their planning officers the actual truth in a language that they understand. These reports and experts do not come cheap and the Developers have deep pockets, but we know that together, as a community, we too can match them – so please DONATE whatever you can.
Timing is of the essence and in the short term the most important thing we can do is get the ball in motion to get counter reports written – for this we need money - so please DONATE whatever you can - large or small amounts - it all helps.
We have a sheer determination to make sure that Developers don’t just get away with applying for unsuitable projects, just because they can make maximum profit and they think that they can get away with it by promising things that they later do not deliver once it is too late and the buildings have been built. We will put in our time and effort to push the council to consider local concerns seriously and take them into account before any decision is reached.
If you can’t afford to donate a lump sum then you could set up a direct debit of say £1 a week – it will really make the difference!
Thanking you in advance
