Help Save 600 Rescued Dogs from Hunger and Homelessness

Donation protected
Hi everyone,
My name is Wa, and I’m an international student at Vanderbilt University, Class of 2028. I’m writing to ask for your help.

For the past five years, I’ve been volunteering at an animal rescue shelter in Xuancheng, Anhui, China — a place that has become a last refuge for nearly 600 stray dogs. These animals were rescued over the years by an incredible woman, Grandma Zhang, the 80-year-old founder of the shelter. Many of the dogs are old, sick, or disabled — the ones most often abandoned and least likely to be adopted.

Grandma Zhang once sold her own retirement home in Shanghai just to afford the 3 tons of dog food needed each month to keep the shelter running. She now lives at the shelter full-time, waking up at 4 a.m. every day and sleeping only 3 hours a night to care for the animals.

But now, the shelter is in crisis.

They are running out of food.
They are at risk of losing their space.
And they desperately need our help.

In addition to food, the shelter must cover the costs of two workers to help care for the dogs, as well as monthly utilities. And this month, the shelter faces a critical deadline: they must pay one year’s rent—45,000 RMB (about $6,200 USD) or risk eviction.

Despite these hardships, Grandma Zhang never turns a dog away. Locals often bring in strays they find, knowing it may be the only safe place for them. But with no steady funding, the situation has become unsustainable.

We are urgently raising funds to:

Buy food for 600 dogs

Pay for rent to avoid eviction

Support basic utilities and caregiver wages

Please, if you can, donate and help us share this message. Every dollar, every repost, and every act of kindness makes a difference. Let’s come together to protect these lives and support the tireless woman who has spent her whole life given them hope.

Donate now — and help us keep these dogs safe, fed, and loved.
For the voiceless, your compassion can mean everything.
