Dear Family, Friends, and Compassionate Hearts

We come to you today with an urgent request to help save the life of Blen Tewodros, a bright, loving 12-years-old girl from Ethiopia. Blen was born with a rare and serious health condition called Pectus excavatum, which causes her chest to sink inward, dangerously compressing her heart and lungs. As she grows, her condition has worsened, and doctors have confirmed that if she is not treated in time, it will be life-threatening.

Every single day is a struggle for Blen. Breathing is so difficult. Swallowing while eating is very painful causing her malnutrition. Sleeping is hard due to her pain every night. She can no longer run, play, or attend school like other children of her age. Her energy has drained away, and it breaks our hearts to see her unable to enjoy her childhood which is slipping away.

Doctors from Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital Medial board in Ethiopia have warned that without immediate surgery, Blen’s health will continue to deteriorate and get worse.

Sadly, this life-saving operation is not available in Ethiopia. She was referred to get help outside of Ethiopia. The most affordable option is in Apollo Hospital in India, where specialist surgeons decided they will perform the corrective surgery. But, the estimated cost is $25,000 USD, (35,000 CAD), ($40,000 AUD), an amount her parents simply cannot afford as they are struggling financially already. That’s why we have come to you with this humble request for your support.

About the fundraiser & How Funds Will Be Used:

My name is Elias Kagnew, and I’m Mr. Tewodros G/Sillassie cousin ( Blen’s father). I’m originally from Ethiopia and currently living in Australia. While I’m the one collecting the funds, this fundraiser is a joint effort organized by myself, Netsanet Shiferaw , Michael Shiferaw, Meried Kagnew and along with other family members who are committed to helping Blen get the life-saving care she urgently needs. We created this campaign to support her parents, who are doing everything they can to save her life.

The money raised will be withdrawn by me and sent directly to Blen’s parents in Ethiopia to cover her surgery, hospital fees, travel, and recovery. ብሌን የደረቷ ፍርምባ አጥንት ወደ ውስጥ መስመጥ [ፔክተስ ኤክስካቨተም] የተባለ ችግር ይዛ የተወለደች ሲሆን ደረቷን ወደ ውስጥ እንዲጎብጥ በማድረጉ ምክንያት በልቧ እና ሳንባዋ ላይ በአደገኛ ሁኔታ የሚጨመድድ ጫና አስከትሎባታል።

እያደገች ስትመጣም፥ ያለችበት ሁኔታ እየተባባሰ በመሔዱ፥ አሁን በጊዜ ህክምና ካልተደረገላት ለህይወቷ እንደሚያሰጋት ሐኪሞች ደምድመዋል።

እያንዳንዷ ቀን ለብሌን ትግል ናት። መተንፈስ ያስቸግራታል። የተመገበችውን ለመዋጥ የሚያማት ከመሆኑ የተነሣ፥ የመቀንጨር አደጋ እንዲጋረጥባት ሆኗል። ከህመሟ የተነሣ በምሽት እንኳን ለመተኛት ትቸገራለች፥ እረፍትም የላትም። እንደድሮው መሮጥ፣ መጫወት፣ ወይም እንደሌሎች እኩዮቿ ትምህርት መከታተል እያስቸገራት መጥቷል። ጉልበቷን እያሟጠጠባት እየሔደ በመሆኑ ወድ ልጅነቷን ሳትኖረው ያለደስታ እያለፈባት መሆኑ ልባችንን የሚሰብር ነገር ነው።

በኢትዮጵያ የሚገኘው የጥቁር አንበሳ ስፔሻላይዝ ሆስፒታል ሜዲካል ቦርድ በወሰነው መሰረት፥ በፍጥነት ቀዶ ጥገና ካልተደረገላት፥ የብሌን ሁኔታ የባሰ እየላሸቀ ከዚህም የከፋ ሊሆን እንደሚችል አስጠንቅቀውናል።

በሚያሳዝን ሁኔታ ግን፥ ይህንን ነፍስ አድን ቀዶ ህክምና በኢትዮጵያ ውስጥ ማግኘት አልተቻለም፣ ስለዚህም ሐኪሞች ወደ ውጭ ሄዳ እንድትታከም ወስነዋል። አቅም ያገናዘበ ህክምና ሊገኝ የሚችለው ግን ህንድ አገር አፖሎ ሆስኚታል ሲሆን፥ የተካኑ ስፔሻሊስት ሰርጀንቶች የማስተካከያ ቀዶ ጥገና ሊያደርጉላት ወስነዋል። ለዚህም ህክምና የተገመተው ወጪ ወደ $25,000 USD የአሜሪካ ዶላር ያህል በመሆኑ፥ ቀድሞውንም የኑሮ ጫና አቅማቸውን ላዳከመባቸው ወላጆቿ መወጣት የማይችሉት መጠን ነው። ከዚህ በመነሳት ድጋፋችሁን በመሻት እናንተን ለማስቸገር በትህትና ወደእናንተ መጥተናል።

እናንተ የምትለግሱን ገንዘብ፥ መጠኑ ምንም ያህል ቢሆን፥ በቀጥታ ለብሌን ቀዶ ጥገና ህክምና፣ ለጉዞዋ፣ በሆስፒታል ለሚኖራት ቆይታ እና ለማገገሚያዋ የሚውል ነው። እያንዳንዷ ዶላር ወይም ብር ዋጋ አላት። እባካችሁን ብሌን በነጻነት እንድትተነፍስ፣ ሳቋ እንዲመለስ እና ያለህመም ትምህርቷን እንድትቀጥል፣ ከእኩዮቿ ጋር እንድትቦርቅ - እንዲሁ እንድትኖር ዕድል በመስጠት እንርዳት።
