Help Save 100 Beautiful Dogs

Donation protected
Hi, our names are Käri-Ann and Leonard Thor.
We are animal lovers and share our lives with three treasured dogs.

We are doing some extra fundraising to help save the lives of as many dogs as possible from the Middle East. A Canadian dog import ban from over 100 countries is soon coming into effect. Loved at Last Dog Rescue is working around the clock to save as many of these precious innocent beings as possible. Many dogs have been victims of human cruelty and have survived with incredible spirit, the will to live, and a heart still full of love. It is heart-wrenching as since this ban was announced, thousands of dogs have already been killed. Right now, phenomenal sacrificial rescuers are trying to keep them safe and are lovingly trying to care for them. These dogs could be family pets and could be afforded the loving home they deserve, but unfortunately, after September 28th, they will no longer have that chance.

Please read the Call to Action text below for more information.
Within is also a petition link and other suggestions of how you can help.

We and our dear friend, Jim Hummel, plus Jan Olsen and many LALDR volunteers are paying to transport some dogs to Canada, but we would love to facilitate the chance for 100 more dogs to be able to live. Every little bit of donation would help to support one more dog life. We are also looking for people to foster the dogs, and of course, we need adopters. The Thors have taken the task of finding help for these eight dogs (all their stories / pictures / videos are on the LALDR website): Beauty, Cupcake, Dorla, Barlowe, Ranger, Cisco, Kopol, and Martin (his story is below). Other volunteers are working to get the dogs in highest danger here first, or how to get many small to medium sized dogs here as more flight options if a lower weight. All their stories are on the website.

RESCUE STORY:

Hi, my name is Martin and I was saved when my rescue mom found me and a few of my friends in the back of a government truck, on our way to be euthanized. The officials had already poured acid on us and we all had burns on our bodies. My rescue mom unlocked the back door of the truck when the driver had stopped to pick up more dogs and that's when I ran away. I was lucky because my rescue mom took me to her shelter and took good care of my wounds for months till I was healthy again.

I have been living with my rescue mom and other furry friends for a while now. I am a very gentle and submissive boy. My rescue mom says that I would never hurt a fly! Yes, I am a lover. I love all my friends at the shelter, big or small. I even have a couple of cat roommates that I often share my food with!

I can be a little shy when I first meet people, I think it is because of what happened to me. Even though I have had a rough start, I live life to its fullest. I love to go for walks and explore but unfortunately, we can’t leave the shelter without risking our lives. I know one day I will find my forever home. I am so looking forward to going for walks in the doggie trails or parks without any concerns. I can't wait to feel the grass under my paws! Maybe I can learn how to swim! I have been told that I am a very smart cookie and learn really fast.

I love playing with squeaky toys when I have a chance to get my paws on one! But most of all, I love to receive lots of affection. I hope you enjoy wet doggie kisses because I have a lot of them to give.

I am missing a patch of hair on my back, that's where my skin was burnt when the officials poured acid on me, but my beautiful green eyes make up for the missing patch of hair! The doctor said that in time, I may get my hair back but who knows! My rescue mom says That I am beautiful both inside and outside.

If you are looking for a lifetime companion who will fill your life with lots of love and joy please consider me. I promise you, one look into my eyes, and you will know that you have made the right decision. I simply can not wait to meet my forever, loving family where I can just be a doggo!!

I am a loving boy who can not wait to finally meet his forever home. Despite my rough start, I have so much love to give and appreciate all the little things in life. I have a great temperament and just want to love and be loved. I am a little submissive and get a bit shy around people I don't know, but I am very gentle and have never displayed any aggression towards anyone.

THANK YOU for reading about Martin and this call for support.
Loving animals together is one way we can bond with each other in our humanity. We and many others will be very grateful for any way you can help. You can also donate directly to Loved at Last.

NOTE: **Time Sensitive Donations needed**
Many logistics are being figured out by an amazingly dedicated group of volunteers. Flights have to be booked and dog transfer and transport tightly arranged. Donations as soon as possible would be best, so we can get the dogs here. Later donations of course can help with many other expenses (foster care support etc.)

Please find out more from the Loved at Last Dog Rescue Website or Facebook Group

All proceeds from this Go-Fund Me will be transferred to Loved at Last Dog Rescue and first will go towards transporting the dogs out of the danger zone and literally saving their lives. We want to rescue all 122+ dogs, but even saving some will bring great meaning to the hard-working rescuers and can also be in honour of the dogs already lost or those who will not be saved... always their vibrant spirits and love-filled hearts to be cherished. The joy of some dogs' new lives will help us to endure this duality in our existence ... of all the suffering, and that life is still somehow beautiful.

Thank you for reading and for helping in any way you can.
Please pass along to others this Go Fund Me or the Call to Action.

THE CALL TO ACTION
A recent ban on the importation of dogs into Canada from over 100 countries deemed to be at high risk of dog rabies is sparking outrage amongst dog rescuers and dog lovers across the country. The rationale for the ban is two cases of overseas dogs with rabies arriving in Ontario, despite tens of thousands of healthy dogs having entered Canada over the past decade. This heavy-handed reaction, if left unchallenged, will doom thousands of dogs to a life of endless suffering in the streets, or to a death sentence in overcrowded shelters instead of finding loving homes in Canada. Already two shelters in the Middle East who worked with Canadian rescues to find homes for their shelter dogs, after hearing about the impending ban, shot all their dogs, a genocide of almost 2000 animals. The cash-strapped municipal governments can’t afford to pay to care for their dogs indefinitely without any hope they will find homes.

With very few homeless dogs in Canada, this ban will prevent tens of thousands of Canadians from being able to adopt a rescue dog, forcing them to buy one from a breeder, and this could even create a resurgence in puppy mills.

Canada is considered internationally to be a haven for stray dogs from around the world, as reported in the below article.
Now the CFIA intends to destroy this reputation of compassion and transform us into just another nation that turns its back on the suffering of stray dogs around the world.

Join us in a call to action to pressure the Canadian Food Inspection Agency to either rescind the ban or to exempt dogs being imported for adoption and humanitarian reasons. We are asking for people to call and to email the CFIA to express your outrage about this inhumane and heavy-handed decision.

It would also be of great value to call, email or meet with your MP to let them know you would like them to oppose the importation ban.
In addition, please be sure to sign the following petition and to spread it widely. https://action.animaljustice.ca/page/108873/petition/1

Please encourage all your dog-loving friends and family members to participate in this call to action. We want the response to be so overwhelming that the CFIA understands how very unpopular and damaging this ban would be.
