On May 23, 2026, my life changed in an instant when a fire broke out in my home. I caught on fire and sustained significant burns on my right arm, toes, thighs, stomach, and lower back—19% of my body. I am so grateful that the father of my children was nearby and able to help save my life by quickly removing my burning clothes. He suffered burns on his hands in the process, but his actions made all the difference. The fire spread quickly, and thankfully the sprinklers went off, but our home was flooded as a result.

After the fire department responded, animal control took our dogs because they had inhaled smoke. We are facing urgent financial needs for medical care, bills, and animal control fees. Medical supplies and treatments not covered by insurance, rent, utilities, and the cost of reuniting with our pets are weighing heavily on us. The father of my children works in agriculture, but he will need time to recover from his burns, which affects our income.

This tragedy has deeply impacted my four children, ages 14, 9, 7, and 4. It will be a long journey of healing for me, and my children will be more reliant on their father and family for activities and daily life as I recover.
