Help a Union Mom Recover From a Severe Injury & Care for Her Kids
Hi, my name is Savannah Sky also known as “Lavagirl_hvac” and I’m a proud HVAC technician apprentice through the union. I work hard every day handling heavy equipment, tools, and sometimes live voltage — it’s a job I love and have worked hard to build a future in, especially as a single mom of two amazing young kids, ages 5 and 3.
Recently, during a short trip to a waterpark in Palm Springs, I suffered a severe injury. In just seconds, while walking barefoot from our seats to the lazy river — something I didn’t even think twice about — I burned the bottoms of both of my feet badly. I later found out they’re classified as third-degree burns. The skin peeled off entirely, and I’m now facing 4–5 weeks of painful recovery where I can’t walk, drive, or return to work safely.
Being out of work is hard enough. But as a mom, it’s heartbreaking. I still have to find ways to get my kids to and from places, keep them entertained and fed, and maintain a home — all while trying to heal from a debilitating injury. I’m now needing to pay out-of-pocket for extra support just to get through the day, while also trying to cover:
• Rent and bills
• Lawyer fees
• Food and basic necessities for my kids
• Help with transportation and childcare while I’m non-weight-bearing
I’ve never been in a situation where I needed to ask for help like this, but this injury has truly shaken up my world. If you’re able to donate or even just share this, it would mean so much to me. Every bit helps me stay afloat and continue showing up for my kids while I focus on healing.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
