HELP SASHIN BATTLE IT OUT

Donation protected
Sashin Patrick is our 24 year old loving cousin. He is the only child of our dear aunt Sandy (single parent), and is very supportive towards his family. Sashin is the breadwinner of the family with an extremely generous, kind and ‘never say no’ attitude towards helping others. He has a great passion for cars, and is musically talented in playing the guitar and singing.

We care a lot for Sashin, and hope that with your kind help he can continue to be the person he once was.

At 12:30am on June 4th 2018 in Sri Lanka, our cousin Sashin was unfortunately involved in a motor vehicle accident. The impact was so severe he was in an unconscious state instantaneously. 20 mins later initial witness transported him to the local hospital in a tuk tuk.

Limited hospital resources meant that his condition was misdiagnosed, miscommunicated and mistreated. Our family member’s then transferred Sashin against medical advice to Colombo National Hospital. It was here, that Sashin underwent his first brain surgery for a brain hemorrhage. He was in the ICU for 3 days, but due to a shortage of beds he was transferred to the ‘High Dependency Ward’ where he unfortunately developed a brain infection. On Sashin’s birthday, the 15th June we were notified that his condition had deteriorated and that his survival rates were low, and that he was being placed on life support.

Renowned neurosurgeon Dr Sunil Perera at the Asiri Surgical Private Hospital Colombo restored hope in our cousin’s survival. Despite the costs involved and multiple brain surgeries, Sashin showed improvements as his condition stabilised. Whilst in the ICU for 9 weeks Sashin was brought to a semi conscious state. The costs of the private hospital meant that Sashin was brought home, where his room was converted into a hospital like room to facilitate his rehabilitation.

Sashin is currently in the process of rehabilitation, and 6 months on from his accident he is showing subtle improvements. However, he is still bed bound, uses a feeding tube and has minimal control of movement of his body.

With your generous support you can help our cousin recover. Your kind donations will aid in his process of rehabilitation and also help facilitate his ongoing medical expenses such as hospital/surgery bills, medication and physiotherapy. With your assistance Sashin can continue his rehabilitation under the 24 hour in-home care of specialised nurses, a neuromedical team and an allied health team.

Recently, on December 17th Sashin was readmitted to the hospital due to complications in his shunt and is awaiting brain surgery. Currently, after 11 brain surgeries he remains in the ICU ward of a Private Hospital.

We would greatly appreciate your generous, thoughtful and kind support towards our cousin.
