Help Sasha leave her horrible apartment.

Hi, my name is Kara Calhoun and I am attempting to raise funds to save my girlfriend Sasha, who lives in a rapidly deteriorating apartment complex rife with violent crime. There are other areas in Phoenix where conditions are not so dangerous, but the key factor in moving to those areas is time. For reasons explained below, we are seeking aid to help create that time. After much deliberation, we've agreed that the best course of action is to fund her...

1: Payment for this month's rent at her apartment (current)

2: Payments for her applications and holding desposits to other apartments that are outside of this high crime zone.

Sasha is on disability, is currently unable to work and does not own any private transportation. Unfortunately, the companies/organizations that put her in this position are not willing to cooperate and help her, and she is being coerced into signing another year's lease or facing immediate eviction. There was a previous spoken word agreement that allowed section 8 funds to be released without a contract, but the company that provides housing assistance is unwilling to extend this any further. The options are either to leave immediately, sign a new lease before an eviction is issued, or provide the current month's rent without federal housing aid.

The high rate of violent crime in this complex has worsened an extant agoraphobia and set her back in therapy by years by our collective reckoning.

At the beginning of this summer, a woman was shot and killed in front of her apartment, and the month before that there was another murder on the complex under currently unknown circumstances. In the chaos of the most recent shooting, she broke her ribs getting to safety. There is an armed security presence on the premises, but they do nothing but protect the landlord and the front office where the money is. Police more or less have given up attempting to respond to violence at the complex, and the landlord refuses to take action against tenants that are known to victimize others, contributing to an environment where domestic and gang violence are the norm.

The operating staff are content to let everyone live in squalor, the place is covered in trash, the roof leaks, there is no peace or security. This is not somewhere we want our girlfriend to be. Every day she's there, her ability to function is further hindered. The stress is constant and her wellbeing continues to deteriorate at a rapid pace. Since March, she's been trying to get these organizations to help and now that it is August, she is trapped here, still, facing the prospect of being stuck here for another year by contract.

We cannot allow this.

We are seeking any help that can be spared right now. We are currently in training, but do not yet have an income and cannot render the complete assistance necessary. It's with a heavy heart that we call upon friends and strangers for this assistance.

Eventually we want to move her closer to us. But that just can't happen in the current situation - and amid this ongoing pandemic, no less.

So please, help us help her. Help get Sasha to safety.
