Help Sariah with her smile

Hello, my name is Danielle and I am starting this Gofundme for my beautiful, 13 year old daughter, Sariah. Sariah’s story starts with a bumpy beginning. She was born with a cleft palate which made it very difficult for her to eat.

Having a cleft palate comes with many hurdles. It wasn’t until Sariah was 4 months old when we noticed she was not responding to sound like most children would at a young age. At four months old Sariah had eustachien tube dysfunction that left her with a severe hearing deficit.

By the time Sariah was 6 months old she had two sets of tubes in her ears to relieve pressure in her eustachien tubes. Sariah was undergoing speech therapy every week to help her communicate with family. At just a year old Sariah underwent a major craniofacial surgery to repair the palate inside her mouth. It was a success!!!

Sariah’s recovery went exceptionally well. Soon after the surgery Sariah was talking and her hearing was back to normal levels. Most importantly, she was talking!!

Since the surgery Sariah has grown a lot as you can imagine. But she has difficulties still. There is simply no way to get the framework of her mouth better without another surgery. I took Sariah to an orthodontist two years ago and the good doctor put what is called an expander in her mouth in hopes of it spreading her mouth open over time to be able to fit her teeth. It failed. It was extremely disheartening for us but I was still hopeful that we could find a solution.

That’s where this Gofundme is vital.

Sariah’s orthodontist is recommending her see a craniofacial surgeon in another town in order to get her the help that she needs to restructure her mouth. Without this surgery Sariah will not qualify to get braces and she will be left with her jaw hurting when she eats and her smile, although I think it’s cute, will be left as is. Sariah does have insurance but unfortunately I cannot come up with the cost of the deductible, which is $5,000, that is needed to move forward. I believe that a smile can say a thousand words. I know that we can raise this money for Sariah.

A little bit about Sariah because I am so proud of her.

Sariah is 13 years old. She loves school and she excels in math. Sariah is currently in the 8th grade at a military prep school (all by her own choice) taking 10th grade math. She loves Anne Frank and all things history. She is my big brained, funny as all get out, kind, and caring girl. She knows the pure definition of humility and I feel like I learn more from her in one day than I could ever teach her in a year.
