Help Sara's Family Through Critical Surgery

My name is Sara Tabares.

I’ve been living with chronic pain and complications since 2018, when I developed a very rare condition known as Mirror Syndrome from my baby with nonimmune fetal hydrops. Sadly, my daughter Luna passed away. I filled with over 50 lbs of fluid within a 2 week span that caused excessive damage and a hernia. My second pregnancy was large (nearly 10 lbs), as I lived with the hernia for another two years until it was "fixed" with a mesh in 2022.

Our only source of income comes from my husband Moises who is a patient transporter for a research hospital. He will be home for 2 weeks unpaid, and my parents will have to take some unpaid time to help us with our 5-year-old daughter during this time as well. She has autism and could unintentionally cause me to hemorrhage so we need as many people around to keep us separate and cared for during the early recovery period.

We need help to afford aftercare for an intense surgery to reconstruct the abdominal wall and remove scarring and dead tissue that is weighing on an umbilical hernia mesh. It causes significant pain and adhesions that can obstruct the intestines.

It's very hard to keep up with a child with high needs that keeps growing. My doctor said it was not a matter of if, but when the hernia mesh will fail if I don't get this surgery to alleviate the strain on it. A hernia mesh failure only has a 40% success rate of repair. It's so important that I receive this procedure to live without the pain caused by this condition, and to be able to keep up with our child. We live far from family and she needs an able-bodied full-time caregiver at this difficult time.

We, the Tabares family, are grateful for any contributions. The funds will help us to both pay medical expenses and to compensate for the loss of income due to the extended time off of work required to help take care of Sara during these times.
