Help Prickly Pear Second Wears Thrive: A Story of Reinvention, Dedication, and Growth

Hello!
My name is Sara, and for the last 15 years, I’ve been a dedicated massage therapist, using my hands to bring relief and care to others. But over time, it became clear that I needed to diversify how I could sustainably support myself. With $900 borrowed from a friend and a vision rooted in creativity and environmental care, I launched Prickly Pear Second Wears from my mother’s garage in 2024.

In my first year, that $900 turned into $10,000 in revenue and $16,000 in inventory. Without a business degree, every step has been a crash course in resilience, learning, and adaptation. Last August, I began working with a mentor who helped me clean up my books, focus on what’s working, and record what isn’t. I ended 2024 with real momentum and a growing belief in what this work can become.

But in January, I had to undergo a surgery I’d been postponing for far too long. The recovery, along with the turbulence of our current climate: social, political, and economic, caused a major slowdown in sales over the last few months. These months were crucial in getting me through the summer season, a season where folks are looking to take off more than put on.

With the summer months already here, there are a variety of challenges that require investment. Which is why I’m turning to my community.

My Goal: $10,000 in Working Capital

With your support, I’ll be able to:

• Climate-proof my garage studio by insulating the garage door and installing a split AC unit. Arizona heat is no joke—and it directly affects how long I can work and how well inventory holds up.

• Invest in protective storage for delicate, higher-priced garments and natural fiber items, which are vulnerable to moths and temperature swings.

• Maintain and upgrade essential tools and equipment, including sewing machines, basic repair tools, and most crucially my car, which allows me to source inventory and attend markets.

• Hire support for bookkeeping and consistent online presence, ensuring I can scale without burning out.

• Continue education in sewing and textile work, so I can increase the value of my offerings and eventually teach others.

• Grow my digital presence by learning or outsourcing social media marketing and advertising to share my mission more widely.

• Keep the momentum going through strategic inventory investments, ensuring that I can say “yes” when great pieces cross my path.

This isn’t just about surviving it’s about continuing a path I’ve worked hard to build. Prickly Pear Second Wears is rooted in reuse, reinvention, and keeping well mades in circulation. Every garment has a story, and so does every milestone,
Thank you for reading mine.

Please only donate if you can; every bit helps, and there’s no amount too small. If you’re not in the position to donate, sharing this campaign would be incredibly helpful in keeping my business afloat, and of course, deeply appreciated!
