I am asking for help for my niece, Sarah Emmers. On August 5th, Sarah went in for a scheduled surgery on an aneurysm. There were complications during the surgery that caused a stroke, her brain to swell, and she has lost her speech. She is unable to move her right side. The swelling continued to worsen, and another surgery was scheduled to remove a portion of her skull to relieve pressure on the brain. A few weeks have passed; she started rehab and was starting to improve slightly. Then there were more complications because the swelling was not going down, and her incision got infected. She was brought in for yet another surgery to remove more of the skull, redo her sutures, and clear up the infection. When she is healthy enough, she will need to go into a long-term rehab facility tailored for brain injuries. She will get the care she needs to relearn speech and mobility. Hopefully, one day, she will be able to live on her own, but this will take many months to a year.
