My name is Sarah I’ve been a makeup artist for 10 years. I’m very passionate about my work and I love what I do. I was recently let go from my job for reporting the racism I constantly faced. The day they fired me I begged them to tell me why my manager said “It’s not up to me I don’t know why you’re being fired” I barely speak I just work and do my job. Everyday I came into work the associates would make derogatory remarks about my makeup. I tried to ignore all the racist things being done but once I spoke up and said I was hurt, I feel that’s when they decided to fire me. There was a headless black doll taped to the break room vending machine. When I brought it up to another associate they just laughed in my face. (I have video evidence of that ) anytime I would make a purchase in the store certain associates would accuse me of stealing it. Once I purchased a bag of chips on my break and a manager said to me ‘let me tape the receipt to you so they don’t think you stole it’. My heart dropped but I didn’t say anything because I know if you speak up you get in trouble. I was constantly walking on eggshells anything they asked me to do I did it. There was always someone watching me extra close. Regardless of how they treated me I still loved my job and came into work ready to do what I loved. I really believe they saw how much I loved my job and wanted to take it away from me. I made numerous complaints to HR, ICARE, & EEOC. That was a month ago nobody ever got back to me.Now I’m jobless, broke, and at square one. I can’t find a job because I live in south fl.
