Help Sarah Rebuild After Losing Her Partner

Please help us support our friend Sarah with hospital and funeral costs and the costs of raising her son after the sudden death of her life partner, just weeks after Sarah gave birth to their baby.

Sarah’s fiancée and co-parent Alex unexpectedly passed away on March 12, just weeks after welcoming their son. Alex, Sarah and Mavi got to spend three days together as a family before Alex’s COVID diagnosis forced her into isolation and later hospitalization. The combination of COVID, her pre-existing epilepsy and additional complications was more than her body could withstand.

 

Alex was an incredibly loving, supportive and kind person who was always there for those around her, including her partner Sarah and as an integral part of the community at Viamistad , a camp she and Sarah built and directed together over the past 6 years of their relationship. Viamstad offers free camps in Guatemala for people with disabilities and their friends.

 

Alex was so excited to start a family and build a life with Sarah and absolutely adored their son Mavi. Her absence leaves a gaping hole in the lives of Sarah, Mavi and her many friends and loved ones in their community and beyond.

 

Sarah moved to Guatemala 7 years ago to expand the camps to reach more people with disabilities and later opened a middle school. She has spent her life working to improve the lives of others and is now facing enormous hospital bills, funeral costs and childcare expenses.

 

The medical costs alone are close to $50,000. Donations will help support Sarah and their newborn son Mavi as they rebuild their lives together after this unfathomable tragedy.
