In April, my sister Sarah’s life changed forever. After several painful trips to the ER with no clear answers, she was finally diagnosed with a life-threatening spinal infection that had already spread and caused sepsis. She was rushed into emergency surgery, and while she miraculously survived, the infection left her largely paralyzed from the chest down.

Sarah has spent the last six months in the hospital fighting to recover and adjusting to an entirely new way of life. Through it all, she has remained incredibly strong, positive, and determined — an inspiration to everyone around her. Her husband and two kids have been by her side every step of the way, but this journey has taken a tremendous emotional and financial toll on their family.

Sarah is finally preparing to come home at the beginning of November. Her home has undergone major renovations to make it wheelchair accessible, but those costs have left the family in significant debt. Because of this, she hasn’t been able to afford certain essential items that could truly help her recovery — one of the most important being a neuropathic therapy bed.

This specialized bed costs $4,700 (used) and would greatly improve Sarah’s comfort, circulation, and healing process. It could even help support any potential recovery of movement in the months ahead.
