Help Sarah get on the mend

Up until June 2021 Sarah lead a very normal, happy & healthy lifestyle.. Even having run 3 marathons and 5 half marathons. She was trying out a new sport with her close friends, Stool ball, where she had her first seizure and was taken off to hospital and offered very little explanation. 

There were a few more seizures to come but really wanting to visit her mother in America and being advised by doctors that the jab had no link to the recent seizures she went and had the second dose. After Sarah receiving this in August 2021 she is now requiring 24 hour care; having on average 2-3 non epileptic seizures a day, tremors, absence seizures, loss of memory, loss of the ability to speak & write, weakness, headaches, sensitive eyes, tics and paralysis.

 

After several hospital trips and lots of tests (normal EEG, sleep deprived EEG, MRI brain scan, 2 CT scans & countless blood tests!) Sarah has been diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). For anyone that doesn't know much about FND it is condition where patients receive neurological symptoms such as Sarah's listed above. Symptoms of FND are clinically recognisable that are not categorically associated with a definable organic disease.

 

As this is a specialised area the referral that has been made to neurophysiologist with a 46 week wait through the NHS. There has been no interim plans made by the doctors for any physio or speech therapy and as you can imagine this is extremely frustrating and debilitating. It is very important with FND to start treatment as soon as possible in order to get the best chance of a full recovery.

 

Sarah is still trying to seek private medical healthcare but it is difficult when you have a pre existing condition. She is likely to need months of treatment of physiotherapist, speech therapy, neuropsychology and any further holistic treatments.

 

After speaking to many people who are in the same boat and having the same experiences and have made recommendations for the following; physio, speech therapy, goldic reflexology and many herbal remedies we would like to arrange to start these as soon as possible. If we could even get a small proportion of the money required to go towards the treatments it would make such a difference to Sarah's quality of life.
