Help Sarah get life-changing surgery and a brighter future

Thank you!

On behalf of Sarah and her family, I send a deep and heartfelt thank you to everyone who has donated and has shown support and care in so many other ways.

You–Sarah’s family, friends, church, and community—are not only making Sarah’s surgery and recovery possible, you are giving her a better life. That is priceless.

Your generosity has made a seemingly impossible and financially overwhelming surgery happen–in just 3 days from now. But even more than that, your gifts represent the deep love and care from which they are given.

Thank you, thank you.

We can do together what we could never do alone. There is no time like the present to be reminded of the people’s goodness, generosity, and capacity to care.

You can follow Sarah’s recovery and progress on her CaringBridge Site and send your good wishes over these coming weeks.

We all do better when we all do better.

With deep thanks,

Teri Schwartz
(Sarah’s friend and fundraising organizer)

--

Sarah lives with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.
EDS causes severe, disabling pain and fatigue.
At just 31 years old, Sarah has lived with a profoundly injured hip for 7 years.

She’s had many doctors, many treatments, surgeries.
They all failed.

Sarah can no longer work or drive.
But there is hope.

The Surgery That Could Change Everything

Sarah’s geneticist referred her to the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City:
the #1 ranked hospital for orthopedics in the country.

Over the past 9 months, multiple teams of specialized orthopedic surgeons
reviewed Sarah’s case and developed a surgical plan.

This surgery will dramatically improve her mobility, reduce her pain,
and give her a real shot at a better quality of life.

EDS has great costs: in body, mind, and spirit.
Specialized care for EDS far from home has great cost: money.

Sarah’s surgery is scheduled for March 26th.
Some bills are due now.

Medicare covers most of the surgery itself.

But out-of-pocket costs are significant and overwhelming–
especially since Sarah can’t work.

How You Can Help

To make this surgery possible, we need to raise $22,500.
We can do it–with your help.

Together, we can cover Sarah’s
  • Deductible and non-covered medical expenses for post-op care, equipment, and physical therapy
  • Lodging for one month in NYC for her team to monitor her recovery
  • Travel expenses for pre-op, surgery, and post-op appointments
  • Living expenses during her recovery period
Why Your Support Matters

Sarah says,
"This procedure could change my life.
There aren’t words to describe the kind of hope
this surgery has given me."

Just imagine this hope:
  • walk without pain any day–and on special days–in a Pride Parade or even the woods
  • sleep through the night
  • do the simple daily tasks we can take for granted
  • volunteer in her community
  • reclaim the independence EDS has stolen
Together, we can give Sarah the chance of a new life:
the kind of life we all deserve.

Right now,
we need our communities–and one another–more than ever.

Right now,
Sarah needs you.
