Hi, my name is Sarah. My beloved baby, Gizmo, is a 7-month old Chihuahua. I adopted him a few months ago after my previous Chihuahua of 5 years, Nala, got ran over by a car. I live in Florida, but have been currently residing in New Jersey the past week or so as my grandfather had just passed. I came up to New Jersey as soon as I heard my grandfather was unwell (unfortunately, this was very random and abrupt) and held his hand with him until he passed. Within the same week of losing my grandfather, whom I was very close to, my sweet baby Gizmo started to randomly have excruciating neck pains. We took him to vet and later to a vet hospital. After $1,300 we found out that my poor baby Gizmo needs surgery on his “AA Lux” or Atlantoaxial Luxation. Essentially his first two vertebrae of his spine, closest to his skull, have an abnormal placement that is causing him excruciating pain. It is said this could be a birth or developmental defect. We are not sure why or how this happened as it sprung upon us seemingly out of nowhere. The surgery on his AA Lux will cost about $9,000 and the post op + rehab will be about $3,000 (making it in total about $12,000). If Gizmo does not receive this surgery, he will most likely become paralyzed from the neck down, lose his ability to breathe due to the diaphragm paralyzing, and will pass. Gizmo is currently in a neck brace to prevent mobility in his neck -which apparently is the only thing keeping him from turning his neck the wrong way and becoming paralyzed. To say that I have had an unbearable and heartbreaking past few months is to say the least. Gizmo means the absolute world to me. I am hoping you can help us during this burdensome time.
Any donation helps and if you are not able to donate, I fully understand and am just thankful you took the time out of your day to read about our story. Please share our story with others if you can.
All our love & appreciation,
Gizmo & Sarah
