Hi everyone,

I’m starting this GoFundMe on behalf of my dear friend, Sarah Rizzuto, who is in need of an accessible van to safely and reliably get through daily life. Last year, she was in an accident, and her accessible van was deemed totaled by her insurance company. Since then, she has been without transportation and mostly stuck at home. I know Sarah has recently returned to work and enjoys being out and about in the community when she has time off. Although she uses public transportation it is largely unreliable.

Because Sarah lives with cerebral palsy, she hires multiple caregivers, some of which can drive her accessible van. Juggling an already tight caregiving schedule with inconsistent transportation is a full-time job itself. Sarah uses a powerchair which means she cannot easily catch a ride with a friend or family member. Although I know some think an accessible van is a luxury, it isn’t. It would allow her to get monthly allergy shots, which she’s missed since July and make getting to and from work and accomplishing everyday errands so much easier.

Sarah has been saving for several years to put money toward a new van, but accessible vehicles are incredibly expensive. Between the cost of the van itself and the required modifications (such as her wheelchair ramp/lift, securement systems, adaptive controls, etc), the financial expense is more than Sarah and her family can manage alone.

We know the importance of asking for help and the impact community has for us all. That’s why I set up this GoFundMe for her.
