Hi, my name is Sarah. I’m an American teenager living in Colombia with my family, and we’re preparing to move back to the United States soon. But there’s one huge problem — my best friend, Milo, might not be able to come with us unless we can raise enough money.
Milo isn’t “just a dog.” He’s my heart. We adopted him here in Colombia when he was just a tiny Shih Tzu puppy, and for almost two years he’s been my shadow — sleeping by my bed, waiting for me after school, and cheering me up whenever I felt homesick or sad.
He’s the first dog I’ve ever had, and I can’t imagine leaving him behind. The thought of saying goodbye and knowing he wouldn’t understand why… it breaks my heart every single day.
Bringing Milo to the U.S. is much harder than we ever expected. The CDC requires a special permit and entry process that adds up to an unbelievable amount of money — something my family simply can’t afford right now with all the moving costs.
Here’s what it will cost to bring Milo home safely:
CDC import permit and authorized airport fees: $1,900
Vet inspection in the U.S.: $400
Re-vaccination and rabies titer test (sent to Kansas University): $120 + $350 + extra paperwork fees
Additional travel, vet, and document expenses in Colombia: the remaining total
In total, it’s about $3,500 — and without it, I won’t be able to bring Milo back with me.
I know there are many important causes out there, but this one is so deeply personal to me. Milo isn’t just part of our family — he is family. He’s been there through every hard moment living far from home, and now I just want to make sure he can come home with us.
If you can help — even a few dollars, a share, or a kind message — it would mean the world to me. Every bit brings me one step closer to holding Milo again in our new home, safe and together where he belongs.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story, and for helping us keep our little family whole. ❤️
With love and gratitude,
Sarah & Milo
UPDATE: We have been gathering information and finding ways to lower the prices. We found Washington DC airport to be the less expensive CDC agency facility so that will save us money. The current funds will help us to give him the rabies tier test as a first step and to get a portion for to pay for the required agency facility fee. Thanks for your generosity.
