Hello, friends! My sibling, Liz, and I need your help. I work full-time in retail and Liz works part-time as an in-home nurse. We both live paycheck to paycheck and have been living in an extended-stay motel for the past few years now. We have always paid our rent on a weekly basis, every Saturday. This year, we finally reached a point financially to be able to afford a two-bedroom apartment on our side of Houston! We were very excited to start on this journey of finding the perfect place together, but this month, we ran into some bad news. We got news from the property manager of our motel that the rent would be going up every month by $10 for those of us who pay weekly. $10 doesn't sound like a lot upfront, but that's an extra $40 a month that we don't have. It’s been very difficult for us to manage saving for the apartment, putting food in the fridge, and paying rent with this new increase policy. It’s only going to get harder and harder each month. The only way for us to avoid these rent increases and actually save money for the new apartment is if we switch over to paying the monthly rate instead. That’s where we would like you to open up your heart and possibly help us with a donate or a share. We are trying to raise $900 to be able to pay the monthly rate upfront and avoid these rent spikes in the future for as long as we’re still living here.
