Help Sarah and Her Daughter Keep Their Home During Recovery
Donation protected
Dear friends and friendly strangers,
I have found myself in an unexpected crisis and am here to humbly ask for your help.
On the night of February 1st, I took a serious fall on black ice while walking home. In that moment, shock immediately took over as I realized I was unable to move and was in an emergent situation. I was alone, laying in an alley, in the dark, in freezing temperatures. I dug my phone out of my coat pocket and called 911. I was soon met by an ambulance and the team of EMT's that rushed me to the emergency department at Community Hospital. I was informed I sustained a severe dislocation in my right ankle along with breaking every bone in that ankle, AKA Trimalleolar Fracture. A term I wish I never had the displeasure of learning. I also have a bruised bone in my knee, Tibial Plateau Contusion is the medical term.
I had surgery on my ankle 3 days later to repair the damage that I endured. I now have a metal plate, several screws between each side and a tether that will help repair my bones and allow me to walk again. I will be in a boot cast for the duration of my recovery. The bruised bone in my knee will take 3-4 months to heal on its own with the help of a brace, and the potenial to turn into a fracture. The recovery process has been excruciating both physically and mentally. I will be going through extensive physical therapy, and ultimately this will likely have a long-term impact on my quality of life.
The recovery time will be a minimum of 3 months. Now, I am left with 2 more months before I am able to get back to walking and participating in instrumental daily activities such as driving, household management and most importantly going back to work. I am thankful to have a job graciously awaiting my return, and insurance to cover a majority of my medical costs. I am also honored to have an incredible support system helping me get to all of my appointments, shuttling my daughter to and from school, grocery shopping, picking up medications and mental support.
I have now had a month to wrap my head around what all of this means for myself and my 6 year old daughter. I have gone through what little savings I had and I am now in danger of losing my home where I have lived for the past 13 years. I am currently the sole provider for my daughter and me, and I have run out of resources.
With great appreciation, I ask my community and anyone that has read this far to consider donating to and/or sharing my gofundme. Any and all contributions will go directly towards my rent. This will allow me to heal without the stress and devastation of losing my home, the only home my daughter has known, while I am unable to work.
If you prefer Venmo my handle is @Sarah-Cowan-41
I will be eternally grateful for any help I receive, and as always, will be paying it forward in any way I can when I am back on *both* of my feet.
Most sincerely,
Sarah
