My name is Sarah, and I am living with multiple serious health conditions that have left me unable to work for the past several years. I have degenerative disc disease, three herniated discs, spinal arthritis, a crushed that won't heal, and have undergone a double spinal fusion in my lumbar spine. In addition, I am dealing with widespread arthritis all over my body, joint subluxations, neuropathy, and severe muscle spasms and rigors from a currently unknown autoimmune disease. Because of my spine and joints I try daily to manage intractable chronic pain, which is so severe that it causes my body to release adrenaline constantly, putting me at risk for stroke or heart attack if left untreated. Alongside these challenges, I am diagnosed with GERD and IBS, POTS, and most recently, hypothyroidism. These problems have left me with mobility issues, I need to use a walker to get around day to day, and on my worst days I need to use a wheelchair.
These conditions have made it impossible for me to work for the last 7 or 8 years. I was able to support myself for a while, and my father helped me until recently, but now I am struggling to afford even the basics. I cannot pay for my doctor and prescription copays, the cost of rides to medical appointments or the pharmacy, or the over-the-counter medicines my doctors recommend. I do not have a car and rely on Lyft or a friend for transportation. Groceries are difficult to afford, and I have literally only 2 pants and 3 t shirts that fit me since developing hypothyroidism.
Any support right now would greatly improve my quality of life. I am in the process of applying for SSI, which I hope to receive by November or December. Until then, your help would allow me to continue my treatments, avoid serious health complications, and keep up with the testing needed to diagnose my autoimmune disease. It would also help me afford food and basic necessities, and prevent hospitalization due to medication withdrawal or untreated conditions. Your support would mean the world to me as I work toward stability and better health, and thus a better life.
