For the past year my beautiful and brilliant daughter, Sara, has been dealing with an absolute hell storm of health issues—including multiple surgeries for gallbladder issues, multiple emergency room visits and hospitalizations, to one of the most severe cases of pancreatitis her doctors had ever seen, and finally the confirmation of her cancer diagnosis.
Here is a basic overview of our last year of fighting against Sara’s cancer: On March 28th we found out about the 13cm tumor on Sara’s spine. On July 9th, we got the call that Sara’s tumor was malignant after a small needle biopsy. After this biopsy was unsuccessful in providing a definitive diagnosis, it was decided to have Sara undergo a more invasive surgical biopsy to gather a larger sample to send to the best pathologists and cancer centers in the country. On August 24th, she got 29 staples down her spine from this surgical biopsy. And on November 7th, after weeks and weeks of waiting, we got the news of her final diagnosis of Mesenchymal Chondrosarcoma.
Mysenchymal Chondrosarcoma‘s are extremely aggressive soft tissue tumors. Sara started her first round of chemo on December 13th. She will be undergoing a minimum of 28 weeks of extremely aggressive chemotherapy and doses of radiation as well. These chemotherapy cycles will be multiple 8-9 hour days in a row in the Froedtert Cancer Center.
This treatment plan means that she will be out of work for an extended period of time. Her company, Baker Tilly, has been extremely supportive but with how intensive this treatment plan is there are a lot of unforeseen expenses. These include myself and her brother, Ian, taking time from work to be able to take her to treatments and be there for appointments with her incredible team. Between the lost hours at work, all of the treatments, and then medications to deal with the intense side effects, costs are starting to pile up.
She has had to make a lot of serious decisions in a short amount of time so alleviating her worry of money will help her greatly with the amount of stress she is dealing with.
Any donation amount helps! Sara is in awe at the outpouring of love and support she has received so far ❤️ She would like to give a HUGE shout out to her amazing coworkers who have generously donated PTO hours to her, which have been crucial for all her missed work in the past few months!
