Sara's Journey -

Sara grew up where the Sun always shined - New Mexico, Hawaii, Arizona, a short stint in Maryland, and most of her life in Texas. For most of us, it was not a big deal; for Sara, it was different. With red hair and pale, freckled skin, she had to watch her sun exposure closer than most. Sunscreen for her was always the highest you could find, sunhats a must, and skin cancer self-checks were regular. Skin cancer was always a concern; in her early twenties, she had to have some spots removed. An otherwise healthy individual, Sara continued with her life being a Wife, Mother, Sister, Daughter, Accountant, Serving in church callings, confidant, friend, guardian, and creative soul - and then, in 2014, her chiropractor found a lump in her neck... Thyroid Cancer. The action was swift, she underwent surgery and radiation therapy, and the world was good. She hit her five-year check and was cancer free! However, in 2021, she had a sore on her tongue that was not healing; she went to her Dr, tests were done, and she had cancer once again. This time it was tongue cancer - Sara would fight this battle with the strength that only a few can understand. She endured surgery to remove part of her tongue and a lymph node, radiation, and chemotherapy. Once again, Sara beat cancer. In 2022, she continues her battle - With stage IV Squamous Carcinoma in her throat. Treatment is even more aggressive than in the past - Sara will endure chemotherapy and immunotherapy, with a possibility of radical surgery afterward to remove the tumor.
