A Mother’s Fight to Finish Her PhD and Support Her Son

My name is Sara. I am a third-year PhD student in Nursing at a U.S. public university and a single mother to my 11-year-old son, Jad. We are originally from Palestine, and came to the U.S. eight months ago so I could pursue my education.

This fundraiser supports our tuition and living expenses as we navigate a challenging financial period. I am the sole beneficiary of this campaign. The funds will cover my educational costs, rent, and daily living expenses for myself and my child. This campaign is not affiliated with any organization or linked to any political, religious, or humanitarian effort.

When I left Palestine, I brought one suitcase, a partial scholarship, and a promise to my son:

“I will build a life where you can feel safe, learn freely, and grow with hope.”

I am now in my third year of study, working toward a doctorate in nursing so I can one day return and serve children living with cancer. However, I am facing severe financial hardship as I reach the most demanding part of my program.

What I Need Help With

My scholarship only covers tuition for the fall and spring semesters. That leaves me personally responsible for:

• $6,000 in summer tuition

• Over $15,000 for my final dissertation year

• $1,100/month in rent

• Food, school supplies, and other daily needs for myself and my son

As an international student, I cannot work off-campus, and on-campus opportunities are limited and unreliable. I have no stable income, and covering our basic needs is impossible without support.
