Hi, my name is Sara Calle Alvarado, and I’m a proud first-generation Latina college student, an immigrant from Colombia, and a determined young woman who has fought through obstacles to pursue her dreams.
For the past two years, I have been studying at SUNY Orange, where I’ve been fortunate enough to cover my tuition through scholarships and hard work. During my time there, I immersed myself in student government, cultural organizations, and community service. I have also served as a student leader.
Now, I’ve been accepted to transfer to Binghamton University, one of New York’s top public universities. This is a dream come true..but one that comes with a price I can’t afford alone.
As a low-income, immigrant student, I don’t qualify for most financial aid. My family, who’ve given everything just to help me get this far, are unable to contribute financially. And while I’ve applied for every scholarship I could find, there’s still a significant gap in covering room and board, tuition, and basic living expenses.
My dream is to use my education to give back, to advocate for students like me, to work in global business, and to create opportunities for others who are often overlooked. But I need help getting through this final stretch.
I’m reaching out for help because I’m determined to complete my education and continue building a better life, not just for me, but for my community. Any contribution, big or small, would mean the world and bring me one step closer to my goal.

Hola, mi nombre es Sara Calle Alvarado. Soy una orgullosa estudiante universitaria latina de primera generación, inmigrante de Colombia y una joven decidida que ha luchado contra muchos obstáculos para perseguir sus sueños.
Durante los últimos dos años he estudiado en SUNY Orange, donde, gracias a becas y mucho esfuerzo, he podido cubrir los costos de mi educación. En ese tiempo, participé activamente en el gobierno estudiantil, organizaciones culturales y servicio comunitario. He tenido el honor de ser una líder estudiantil.
Ahora, he sido aceptada para transferirme a la Universidad de Binghamton, una de las mejores universidades públicas del estado de Nueva York. Es un sueño hecho realidad… pero uno que no puedo costear sola.
Como estudiante inmigrante de bajos recursos, no califico para la mayoría de las ayudas financieras. Mi familia, que ha dado todo para apoyarme hasta este punto, no puede contribuir económicamente. Aunque he solicitado todas las becas posibles, aún me falta cubrir una parte importante del alojamiento, matrícula y gastos básicos.
Mi sueño es usar mi educación para retribuir, para abogar por estudiantes como yo, trabajar en negocios internacionales y crear oportunidades para quienes muchas veces son ignorados. Pero necesito ayuda para llegar a la meta final.
Hoy pido su apoyo porque estoy decidida a terminar mis estudios y seguir construyendo un futuro mejor, no solo para mí, sino para mi comunidad. Cualquier contribución, grande o pequeña, significará el mundo para mí y me acercará un paso más a mi objetivo.
