11/18 Update
Sapphire continues to heal and is healing nicely. She knows when its medication time and attempts to outsmart us by eating everything but her medication. We make sure she gets it in her though, hiding it really well. Another few days and she will be off her medications and her 'cone head' can come off. She will be thrilled. She loves scratches all around the cone, I'm sure its itchy and annoying for her but very much needed.
11/13 Update
Sapphire is finally home! She returned late last night, bringing us so much joy. Despite having numerous wounds, one being over 6 inches long, she's displaying resilience and acting as if nothing ever happened. We will be monitoring all eight affected areas to ensure they heal properly. For the next 5 to 10 days, she will be on four different medications to aid her recovery.
We sincerely appreciate everyone who has supported us and shared our journey. The vet bills are staggering; it's shocking how costly veterinary care has become. We remain committed to helping Sapphire and will continue to promote my son's GoFundMe campaign. Our goal of $4,000 aims to cover 50% of the total vet expenses. Any support you can offer will make a significant difference in her recovery! Thank you!
11/12 Noon Update
This morning, the vet called with some fantastic news! Sapphire is ready to have her drain removed, and she’ll be coming home later this evening. She’ll be on antibiotics and pain medications and will need some time in isolation, but just think—she'll be back in our arms! Despite everything she's been through, she's been incredibly adventurous, moving around like nothing ever happened. She's truly the most resilient kitty ever! Let's celebrate her strength and bring her home! Any support you can provide—whether through sharing her story or making a donation—would mean so much and truly help bring her home. Thank you for your kindness.
**11/11 Morning Update**
Sapphire is thriving this morning! She had a restful night with no complications. Despite having a drain tube in her wound, she’s been lively and adorable, rolling around in her kennel. Today she starts on solid foods! The team plans to keep her one more night to ensure everything stays on track.
Evening update: Sapphire has successfully come out of surgery, which lasted three hours. . She suffered 8 wounds, including one deep laceration, yet remarkably, all her organs have remained intact. It's a testament to her resilience—she has surely burned through some of her 9 lives! The veterinarians are in awe, still grappling with how she escaped such a harrowing ordeal. This remarkable house cat is truly a survivor! She will be resting overnight in the ICU, where she will receive the best care possible.
Afternoon Update: She is being treated at North Haven Animal Hospital in Connecticut. Sapphire has multiple puncture wounds with some requiring exploratory surgery this evening. Sapphire is truly more than just a cat—she is a vital companion in my son's life. At 24, he faces challenges with high-functioning autism and PTSD, and Sapphire brings him immense comfort and joy. Her presence makes a profound difference for him. By rallying support, we can ensure that both he and Sapphire receive the healing and care they need during this crucial time. Estimated surgery bill is 8,500.
11/10 Sapphire is one of my son’s beloved cats, and she means the world to him. At just 2 years old, she is the sweetest, most adventurous cat, who loves to play and cuddle. Their bond is especially special because my son has high-functioning autism. He cares for her deeply and shows it in ways that can be challenging for him otherwise.
Last night, our basement window, which had been closed for 16 years, unexpectedly broke open, allowing Sapphire to escape while we slept. This morning, after letting our dogs outside, we heard a distressed cat crying and saw Sapphire emerge from the bushes. We were shocked to realize she had been missing. While checking on our other cat, we discovered the broken window and noticed that Sapphire had sustained a serious wound. We rushed her to the emergency vet without hesitation.
The vet informed us that she is a lucky cat. X-rays show no punctures to her lungs or organs, but unfortunately, there are multiple wounds, with some tissue exposed. It appears she was likely picked up by a larger animal, such as a bobcat or coyote, yet miraculously escaped. She truly deserves this chance to heal.
Sapphire is currently receiving treatment, and the vet bills are mounting by the minute. My son is in CDL school right now and looking for work, making this situation particularly difficult for him. He would greatly appreciate any help to ensure Sapphire can come home where she belongs. Your support can make a real difference. Thank you.
A few have asked about sending other methods so I have included them below. We will keep posting updates above.
