Help Save Sapphire – Emergency Eye Removal Surgery Needed
Hi everyone, my name is Saraih Santana, and I’m reaching out for help for my beloved cat, Sapphire.
Sapphire was born on November 2nd, 2020, and she has truly been a fighter since the very beginning. When she was only 4 weeks old, she suffered severe brain trauma that nearly cost her life. After an emergency veterinary visit and $2,600 in medical care, we were able to save her. Since then, she has grown into a loving, playful, and resilient companion who means everything to me.
Recently, Sapphire suffered a scratch to her right eye from another cat. On February 3rd, 2026, I took her to VCA Emergency where I was charged $527 for an exam and medications, including Ofloxacin (antibiotic eye drops), Atropine Sulfate for pain and pupil dilation, and Onsior (robenacoxib) for inflammation. We were advised to monitor her eye for one week and return for a follow-up visit.
On February 16th, 2026, when checking her eye again, I noticed that the inside tissue of her eye was now protruding outward. I rushed her back to VCA Emergency immediately, where I was told that her eye had ruptured and is no longer salvageable. At this point, the only option to prevent severe infection, prolonged suffering, and possible life-threatening complications is to surgically remove her right eye (enucleation).
She was given Amoxicillin, Gabapentin, and Zorbium for temporary pain control and infection prevention, but these medications are only meant to stabilize her briefly until surgery can be performed.
Unfortunately, I was quoted approximately $4,000 for the emergency surgery, which I cannot afford. I am doing everything I can to locate a lower-cost veterinary clinic that may be able to perform the procedure; which i was able to find one in Moodus Veterinary Practice in Moodus CT apart from the help of donations I will be at $1250.00 on Thursday morning my goal would be to reach $750.00 to finally get her the help she needs.
I do not want to surrender Sapphire. She has already fought so hard to survive once in her life, and I am committed to doing everything in my power to help her again.
I am asking for any support possible to help cover partial cost of her emergency eye removal surgery, or to help me reach a deposit amount required by a lower-cost clinic. Any contribution, no matter how small, would mean the world to us.
If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing Sapphire’s story.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for helping give Sapphire a chance to live a pain-free life.
