Help Saphiras fight with Leukemia

This gofundme is being created for 3 year-old Saphira Rose Valentina Hernandez.

 

Just 3 weeks ago we celebrated Saphi's Baptism where she giggled with her loved ones and was the vibrant and sassy little girl we all know her to be. In the weeks following, her mood had suddenly declined. Mom noticed changes in her appetite, unexplained bruises, and Saphi had appeared noticeably paler than usual.

 

Late evening on April 20th, I received a call from Mom where she expressed her gut instinct (and Google) was telling her these were possibly symptoms of Leukemia. The following morning on April 21st Mom & Dad brought little Saphi to have X-rays, blood work and a checkup with the family doctor.

 

Within hours of the initial testing, the families entire world collapsed. It was what Mom feared the most, our sweetest Saphi was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, also known as ALL. This type of leukemia makes fighting infections very difficult. Saphi was immediately taken to McMasters Children's Hospital where she required an emergency surgery.

Poor Saph has already had 2 platelet transfusions, 2 blood transfusions, bone marrow and spinal fluid testing, as well been given many medications combined with intense chemotherapy and steroid treatments. Due to the side effects of the chemo, Saph also had to have a feeding tube put in to assist with nutrition. Mom & Dad have not left her side.

 

Just three weeks ago we all celebrated Saphi’s baptism and all the blessings we hope for her to receive. As Saphira’s Godmother, I am creating this gofundme to help support the family in more ways than I can do alone. The parents will not be working for the forseeable future and have two other children to care for. We are so greatful that Saphi’s medical treatment is covered where we live, however, the family is struck with a tremendous amount of grief and any relief we can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Funds raised will go directly to the Mother to help with transportation, necessities for the 3 children, and to help lessen the burden of everything else in their lives so they can focus all their energy and time into Saphira’s care and treatment.

 

We have not set a goal amount as this will be a long grueling battle for Saphi and her family. Most importantly, we hope you can whisper a prayer for our sweetheart Saphira.
