Help Santosh Bhattarai Overcome Sepsis and Paralysis
On September 25, 2011, Santosh Bhattarai, a Jhapa, Nepal resident, devoted husband to Sona Sharma, and a father of 2, was diagnosed with a serious spinal cord injury. It started with losing mobility in his right leg, which progressively got worse. As per the doctor’s recommendation, Santosh had surgery to correct it in 2012. Unfortunately, the surgery was unsuccessful and eventually led him to be paralyzed from the hips down and on a wheelchair with an uncertain road to recovery that will include an intense battle for mobility and independence.
Santosh’s deteriorating health and struggle to perform daily chores took a heavy toll on his father, who abruptly passed away in 2016. His father's death also contributed to his worsening health. As Santosh’s mother does not work, and with the lost source of income from his father, his wife Sona is struggling to keep the family afloat financially.
On Feb 6, 2025, Santosh was hospitalized at B&C Hospital in Biratnagar. After 15 days at the hospital, he was brought to and admitted to Bir Hospital in Kathmandu on Feb 21, where he is undergoing treatment for sepsis. Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that occurs when bacteria from an infection enter the bloodstream. Santosh is also type II diabetic, and this is not helping with the healing process. The doctors have suggested that he be transferred to the ICU so he can be treated for the infection.
Santosh is struggling to speak and eat. He needs all the support he can get from all of us.
Santosh’s family has always struggled financially. As he navigates the complex journey of medical treatments, rehabilitation, and therapy, we are reaching out to the community for support for both him and his family. The road ahead is long and challenging, but with your help, necessary resources for specialized care, house modifications, and a better wheelchair with the goal of Santosh regaining as much independence as possible can be achieved. Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support during this incredibly difficult time. Your support and prayers are much needed for Santosh and his family.
