As many of you know, John has been in the hospital since November 5th. Despite a dire prognosis and far too many scary moments, John's transplant surgery was successful, and he's on the mend and stronger than he's been in months.

That being said, he has a long road ahead. Prior to falling ill, he had planned to move to Denver and used a lot of his savings for a car and other moving expenses. Of course, since then, he has not had any income. And it will still be some time before he is able to return to work. As he looks ahead, mounting medical expenses, future follow-ups and procedures, and monthly health insurance premiums are only part of the financial burden he faces. He needs the basics, too - finding an apartment, paying for his cell phone, getting a few pieces of furniture (he had sold most of his before the move), and buying groceries. As he prepares to leave the hospital (probably the first week of February), I know his financial state is adding significant stress and worry, something that surely affects his physical recovery.

Those of you who know John personally know just how loving, sweet, and genuine he is with everyone he meets in life. He was the first real friend I made after moving to New York because these traits of his are so readily apparent. And I know he's impacted so many others in similar ways along the way. He's also the LAST guy I know to ask for any sort of help. So let's piss him off and pitch in a few bucks to help him through this recovery so he can get back to living a great, long life.
