TL;DR

I am scheduled for top surgery in the Fall and need your help to raise the rest of the funds I need for the surgery itself and post-op recovery! After running through different options I decided that paying out of pocket for my top surgery, while costly, is what I need. While I am covered by Ontario Health Insurance, the waitlists for insured top surgery keep getting longer and I am currently in a stable place (mentally and physically) which is why I've decided to have it now rather than later. Top surgery is also something that will make my day-to-day a lot more comfortable, so I don't really want to wait 2 years for a surgery date.

Right now I have about 7,000 CAD saved out of the 9,000 CAD needed for the surgery, not including post-op recovery. This is where you come in!

To break it down, I'm asking for 4,000 CAD because that will be enough to cover the rest of the surgery costs and provide me with buffer for additional costs like commuting to my surgeon's office (a ride to and from my surgeon's office costs me about $90-$100 because of how far it is from me!), paying for an overnight hotel room, and any other unexpected expenses that might come up. This surgery means I'll be off from work for about 3 weeks to recover, and I want to make sure I can do that comfortably and without worrying about bills!

The longer version, for those who like to read

I've been openly identifying as trans for just over a year now, but have been thinking about top surgery for longer than that. For me, top surgery would be amazing and relieve a lot of chest dysphoria that I experience every single day. I'm not a fan of wearing binders as it hurts my back, so it's also gonna be good for my overall health. This procedure will help me better live as my most authentic self and help me along in my life as a transgender individual who has chosen this as part of their gender journey.

After consultations and chatting with other trans folk who've gotten top surgery, I decided that it's something I need as well.

I can't wait for the day that I can wake up without having to feel depressed, and instead be able to walk around without that weight on my chest/shoulders.
