Help Santiago Pérez Uribe Get Life-Saving Cancer Surgery

UPDATE: Letting you all know the surgery was completed yesterday. To this point it looks to have been success - the Doctor is very upbeat on Santi's prospects to recover fully. So, thank-you very much to everyone who supported and helped make it possible.

The surgery did run over time by 60% however. This is due to party due to Santi's athleticism (strong muscles make it harder), and what they encountered. All of the staff mentioned below charge by the hour, and Santi will need to pay for the extension of time in entirety.

Hence, we hope to raise more. This is all keeping in mind that his costs for all this will be lifelong, and much higher than the target actually - he will be taking Thyroxine for the rest of his life.

Hi, my name is Stuart McMillan, and I’m raising funds to help my friend and teammate, Santiago Pérez Uribe, who is facing an urgent and life-saving cancer surgery. Santiago, or Santi as many of us know him, has been a dedicated underwater hockey player, representing Colombia for many years. Now, he plays for New South Wales and is even trialling for the Australian national team—a testament to his talent and determination.

This fundraiser is incredibly important to Santi as he doesn’t yet have the financial stability to afford this critical surgery. He works hard but doesn’t earn much, and he cannot rely on resources from his home country of Colombia to support him through this – we are trying to raise more than the average Colombian earns in a year.

We need to raise $25,000 AUD to cover the cost of his surgery and related ongoing medical expenses. These funds will help:

Pay for the surgery that is needed to save Santi’s life. The funds will cover:

• Pre-surgery visits and scans

• The Surgery including the Doctor, Doctor’s Assistant and Anaesthetist

• Hospital Care

• Post-surgical Consultations

• Medications for pain relieve

• Medications for life – needed as his Thyroids will be removed

Beyond the above, Santi will not be able to work for a period. He needs to cover rent, and keep maintain payments for English classes.
