My name is Santia Gaines, and I am reaching out to respectfully request assistance or guidance in obtaining a bionic hand following a catastrophic car accident that changed my life. On October 26, 2024, I survived a devastating accident that left me with multiple life-threatening injuries, including a shattered pelvis, severe intestinal damage, and broken limbs requiring permanent metal rods. Most significantly, I lost my right hand at the scene. I was given only a 20% chance of survival and was told I might never walk again. Since then, I have undergone 24 surgeries, spent eight months hospitalized, and continue to manage ongoing pain and complications. I was recently hospitalized again over Easter, as well as six months prior due to gastrointestinal issues related to my injuries. Despite everything, I am proud to say I am walking again and continuing my recovery.

I am a wife, a mother of five children, and a grandmother of two. A fur mother to my fur babies (animal lover). Before my accident, I was very active and deeply involved in my children’s daily lives. Today, I face challenges with basic tasks such as dressing, cooking, and caring for my children—things that a bionic hand would greatly help restore. I am seeking support in obtaining a bionic prosthetic hand, which would allow me to regain independence, improve my quality of life, and return to being the hands-on parent my children need. Unfortunately, the cost of this technology is beyond my financial means.
