My name is Enrique, and on a cold day in January I found a dog who changed my life forever. Her name is Santi, and when I first saw her she was nothing but skin and bones—emaciated, limping on a horribly broken and infected leg, riddled with heartworm and every parasite imaginable. She had clearly been living in pain and fear for a very long time, but something in her eyes told me she still wanted to trust someone… she just needed the chance.
Since January 30th, Santi has been at the vet clinic fighting for her life. The doctors have been treating her infected leg, killing the heartworms, clearing out the parasites, and slowly rebuilding her frail little body. She’s made incredible progress, but she’s still not strong enough for the spay surgery she needs before she can come home. Every day she gets a little stronger, and every day my heart grows more certain: this girl is meant to be mine.
The sweetest—and most heartbreaking—part is that Santi is now too scared to leave her kennel run at the vet. That small space has become the only place in her entire life where she’s felt safe. She hides when anyone walks by, trembling, because she doesn’t know yet that the world can be kind. She doesn’t know that a warm bed, gentle hands, and a family who will love her forever are waiting just on the other side of those bars.
I’ve promised Santi—and myself—that the moment she’s healthy enough to be spayed, I’m bringing her home. She will never sleep on the street again. She will never be hungry or afraid or alone. For the first time in her life, she will know what it feels like to be truly loved. But the road to that happy ending is expensive. The emergency care, daily medications, heartworm treatment, x-rays, antibiotics, and upcoming spay have already added up, and we’re not done yet. I’m covering what I can, but I’m a regular person and I simply can’t do this alone.
If you can spare any amount or just share this story, you will be giving Santi the gift of a real life. You will be the reason a broken, terrified little dog finally gets to wag her tail without fear and fall asleep knowing she is safe and loved. Santi has waited long enough. Please help me bring her home.
