Help Sangeetha Medaiah fight Breast Cancer
Donation protected
Dr Sangeetha Medaiah, or Sangu, as she is lovingly known by those close to her, is in need of our help. Sangu was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer in 2020. A loving mother, diligent dentist and professor, her compassion, intelligence, verve, attitude, talents all continue to inspire and enrich the lives of those around her. She valiantly continues to teach and treat her patients even though cancer has progressed in her body.
The sample picture on the GoFundMe page is a picture of her artwork. Sangu took to painting as a form of therapeutic healing during her continuing fight with cancer. She now sells her paintings to help other unfortunate souls requiring financial help for medical treatment during their lifetimes. Sangu, even in her extreme moments of duress, chooses to use her light to help others, and this does not surprise us. That is Sangu. She is Light.
Background:
Sangeetha was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer in 2020 that has metastasized in her sternum and lungs (thus removing the possibility of surgical intervention). Since then, she has been undergoing chemotherapy with different regimens of treatment with little success.
Trodelvy is the only drug that has been FDA approved in the US and EU that holds out hope for the type of cancer Sangeetha has. Trodelvy has not yet been approved in India where Sangeetha is undergoing treatment and thus needs to be procured from Germany for her treatment.
Why This Drug?
This drug was a breakthrough for treating very aggressive forms of breast cancer. This drug is an Antibody-drug conjugate or ADC. Unlike chemotherapy, ADCs are intended to target and kill tumor cells while sparing healthy cells.
We have applied to the manufacturer of Trodelvy for access to this medicine free of cost – however, the chances of that happening are negligible and unpredictable. The cost to procure the medicine for 6 rounds of treatment will be around Rs. 75 lakhs or $100,000 USD.
Why Now?
Sangu is running out of time. Her cancer has metastasized and has now spread to her sternum and lungs. The treatment has to be started within 2 weeks for it to be effective. This drug can help with the cure since they target and kill only the cancerous cells.
Sangu has been dealing with her illness and treatment on her own for over two years, but she now needs our help. Please consider contributing towards the cost of this life-prolonging medicine, so that she may be able to raise her son with the same nurturing qualities of empathy and kindness that she gives to the world.
