Hi everyone, I’m raising money for my dear friend Sandy Key. Her husband Tommy Key who is a teacher at Atkins High School is on Life Support.
Here’s the answer to “What in the world happened. I saw him at graduation” and he seemed normal (he actually was)
Sunday June 9th, Tommy attended graduation at Atkins. Was feeling completely normal.
Came home and we worked in the garden about an hour or so. He was still fine.
An hour later he clutched his abdomen and started screaming out in God awful pain then started vomiting uncontrollably. Then his color changed to a yellowish tint and he started sweating so bad it was like he had just gotten out of a pool. I drove like a bat out of hell to the closest emergency room, which is Kernesville. They took him immediately. He blacked out from pain in the lobby a couple of times. After all the tests they discovered the issue was his pancreas.
He was diagnosed with pancreatitis but severe. They told us he would be admitted and it would be a few days before he would be discharged. As it turned out he declined really fast, his pancreas apparently is so inflamed the stuff in the pancreas could be seeping out into his system.
He is on strong antibiotics, his kidneys are barely working for him so the fluids they have to keep putting in his body to treat the pancreas are causing fluid build up in his lungs which was causing him major breathing issues. Now he is sedated and on life support. He had several episodes yesterday and his heart went into a fib and taccacardia. His legs have been dark blue and so very swollen. They explained that his blood flow is choosing to protect his vital organs and not flowing like it normally would in his extremities. He has been in respiratory distress until now because of the fluid building up in his lungs.

This came on so sudden I can hardly wrap my head around it. Today his vitals look better and he's totally sedated. The vent is doing all of the breathing for him right now and his labs seem to be trending in a slightly more positive direction except the kidneys.

Please pray for his kidneys to recover, his lungs to recover and his pancreas to heal. Right now he has so much working against him we all need to be praying hard. They believe the pancreatitis is either an issue that can happen after COVID or his body's reaction to the blood thinners they put him on when his lungs filled with post Covid clots a couple of months ago.

This is all happening so fast. Thank you all for your support. It means so much. Sandy
