Help Sandy Mitchie Recover and Stay Afloat
Donation protected
I am Sandy Mitchie's sister, Jan Olson. I sat in the emergency room on Friday and watched her eyes fill with tears when the doctors told her she may need to be off work for up to 3 weeks getting over the flu with other serious co-morbities. As a contract employee, she does not get paid for missed time from work.
Sandy will be 80 this year and she still works full time. The good news is she loves her job working at the prison. The bad news is that she can't afford to retire. In fact, she can't afford to take a day off, and now she is facing utility cut-offs and foreclosure. I've done what I can to help with a fixed income but it's not nearly enough. As she told me on Friday, "I'm getting real humble. I need help."
If you know Sandy, you know how hard it was for her to say that. Fiercely independent, hard-working, and proud, she has always done whatever it takes to keep her head above water while always caring for other people.
Here's her medical situation: She was in-patient at Corewell over Christmas with an intestinal blockage and the gut issues don't seem to be improving. She has lost 18 pounds since then because eating makes her sick. Since Christmas, she has been through the ER twice. She also needs gall-bladder surgery, and is trying to beef up to get ready to have an Abdominal Aortic Aneurism repaired ,so she is facing much more time off from work.
Anything that is contributed to this gofundme will be used to pay for hospital bills, medication, and living expenses, both prior and the expenses for her upcoming surgeries. Any amount is appreciated.
