Our mom, Sandy Myers, has always been a pillar of the Durango, CO community. As she would happily tell anyone, her happiest accomplishment, besides maybe my brother and me, was that she built the local Durango BMX track. Something that has touched hundreds of lives each year. Over the years, she has given so much of her time and care to those around her, but, unfortunately, now, she finds herself in a place where she needs a little care herself.
Recently, my mom slipped in the kitchen while helping her dog, Frank, get some water. The accident resulted in a broken femur and a shattered knee, major surgery, and a long road to rehabilitation. She is currently in a rehabilitation facility in Durango, facing a large amount of medical bills and future expenses to get back on her feet. This unexpected accident has brought significant emotional, financial, and physical hardship to her and our family.
Unfortunately, due to a clerical error with her health insurance, she was left without coverage during her injury and surgery, as she was switched to Medicare when she turned 65, but the error resulted in it not being active at the time of her accident.
With my brother Dakota's wedding coming up in August, we want nothing more than for our mom to recover and enjoy the celebration without the stress of the financial implications that are the result of this accident.
Funds raised will help cover medical bills, rehab costs, dog care, and the medical and rehab equipment needed at home while she recovers. Any support means the world to us and will help Sandy get back on her feet.
