Support Sandy's Fight Against Rare Breast Cancer
Donation protected
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, which has directly impacted our family.
My mom, Sandy is a mother of 3 to myself, Jake and Madison. More importantly a proud grandma to 3 little ones; Grace, Gentry, and Knox Moreo.
One weekend my mom found a large mass in her right breast that seemed to appear overnight. She had just done her yearly mammogram 6 months ago; things were ok!
After several appointments, a biopsy was completed and eventually had to be sent out to the Cleveland Clinic for further evaluation.
On Tuesday, October 22nd, my mom received the diagnosis of “high grade metaplastic carcinoma” of the right breast.
Our hearts are crushed to learn this is a VERY rare aggressive cancer with very little known about it. The oncologists in Lima have never heard of this type nor do they have any idea how to treat it.
We have done research ourselves to learn with surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy there is HOPE to keep the cancer at bay.
My mom will need to travel to the James Cancer Center at OSU in Columbus for treatment. At this time, we are awaiting an appointment.
10/29 EDIT: She will now be seen at The Cleveland Clinic, her first appointment is next week.
My mom’s tissue has been sent out to Foundation One for testing to see if any chemotherapy may benefit her. Typically, this cancer can be chemo-resistant. They are also doing genetic testing.
My mom has been a great mom, friend, nurse, and grandma! Now she needs our support to be a brave fighter and survivor. We appreciate any share, prayer, or donation.
Any donations will be used for traveling and medical expenses. Thank you for your support!

Update: Mom had a partial mastectomy done at the Cleveland Clinic. Her new pathology report involved a different diagnosis than they originally thought.
She has a malignant phyllodes tumor with osteosarcomatous differentiation. This type of cancer is ultra rare with very little known about it. The only thing we do know is it does come back to the same area over and over. Chemotherapy is not an option for this type, as it doesn’t respond. Radiation is an option for her, however it doesn’t keep the mass at bay for very long.
She will be monitored every 3 months at the Cleveland Clinic.
