Help Sandy and Marcus Scott’s recovery

Donation protected
In the early morning hours on Friday Jan 7 a loud pop and power outage woke the Scott home. What was thought to be an electrical problem that could be resolved by a call to the electrician erupted into a house fire that engulfed the bedroom which Marcus Scott slept. Our heroic Sandy Scott jumped into action calling 911 and pulled Marcus out of bed saving his life, while risking her own. She tried to get him into his wheelchair to flee the house but with his disability and stature, they were not able to make it out of the room. Thankfully her quick thinking allowed firefighters to get them out of the house and to Memorial Hospital where they were both intubated for the excessive smoke inhalation. Both Marcus and Sandy suffered burns, Sandy’s injuries are far greater as she was found selflessly shielding her husband from the flames. They were transferred to the burn unit at St. Francis Memorial hospital where they will remain for an unknown amount of time. Marcus’ overall injuries being less will allow him to released sooner but with no home to go home to and no caretaker it will leave their son Joshua the task of looking for and paying for a long-term assisted living facility for him to be discharged too. Sandy will be undergoing skin graft surgery for her 3rd degree burns mostly on her back, she has 2nd degree burns on her hands and face as well. At this time the doctors are more concerned with her lungs as the amount of damage from the inhalation is far greater than originally thought. They both have a long road ahead of them and with the future unknown we have decided to start a go fund me to help ease the financial toll this unfortunate event will take. Prayers and well wishes are most appreciated, any money raised that is not used for their care will be donated to the burn unit and the first responders who have gone above and beyond to help Josh help his parents. On behalf of Josh and our extended family we appreciate everyone who has reached out to offer their support, we will make updates as we have them.

Sandy was featured in the press democrat for her heroics.
