Subject: An update on Sandy Luis and how we can help
Hello everyone,
I am writing to share an update regarding Sandy Luis and her family. Many of you have reached out over the last month asking how to help, and I’m now able to share some next steps. I was hesitant to reach out sooner, as I wanted to ensure the family had the necessary time and space to process Sandy’s diagnosis together.
As many of you know, Sandy has been on an incredibly difficult journey since December. What began as mild numbness quickly progressed to paralysis from the chest down and weakness in her arms. After two months of extensive testing and treatment, Sandy was diagnosed with Gliosarcoma of the spinal cord, an extremely rare and aggressive cancer.
Sandy is currently in the rehabilitation unit at Danbury Hospital but will be transitioning home very soon. To make this possible, significant modifications are needed to make their home wheelchair accessible, including a hospital bed and a specialized lift for her safety.
I am hopeful that we, as a community, can rally around the Luis family. Here is how you can help:
GoFundMe: Donations for home modifications and medical equipment and more.
Acts of Kindness: Meals, gift cards, or simply stopping by to spend time with Sandy means the world to her.
Thank you for keeping Sandy and her entire family in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult transition. Your support truly makes a difference.
