My name is Daniel DePew and I founded Mikey & Me in Chelsea, Michigan in 2016 to help homeless dogs find a safe and happy home. But this fundraiser is for my friend, Sandy, and her two dogs that are all homeless.

Sandy has been on a list in Washtenaw County for three years already to be considered for subsidized housing. She has been living in her car, year round, and with her two dogs since losing her home in 2022. I met Sandy while helping her dogs get vaccinated through the Mikey & Me Family Assistance Plan.

Sandy is a good person in an awful situation. She’s been parked at the rest area on I-94 and was previously parked on State land. She cannot leave Washtenaw County or she will lose her place on the housing list. Recently MDOT told her to leave the rest area and, after much research, I found that Washtenaw County has no plan, or parking options, for homeless people living in their vehicles.

I’ve been helping Sandy to the best of my ability but I’m on disability for a severe back injury and need to ask for help. I will manage the funds received and apply them to the basic needs for Sandy’s well being and to the well being of her two dogs.

if you can help, every dollar bill will make a difference right now. Sandy is parked in a nice campground for two nights but has nowhere to go afterwards. The cost for her continued stay is $20/night and I am determined to help her achieve that.
