Help Sandwich the Kitten With His Leg Amputation!

Donation protected
On Friday, July 18th, I was closing at Epoch at the Village when a woman came up to the register showing a photo of my car, asking who the owner was. Of course, in my mind, I'm like "Oh NO, is it on fire? Who hit it? Etc." She tells me she saw a kitten roaming in the parking lot and in her attempts to catch the kitten, she accidentally chased him into my car engine. She couldn't stay to help me lure him out, but wanted me to check my car before starting it. Since there were about 20 minutes left before close, I decided to go have a look and see if I could get the kitten out on my own.

I lift up my hood and see the little baby! A wonderful couple, Sara and Justin, had just gotten out of a movie at Alamo and immediately offered to help me get him out! They eventually get him out with help from a ham sandwich grabbed from inside at Epoch and we decided to name him Sandwich in honor of his first favorite comfort food ;)

After we closed, a few friends and I took this little guy to an emergency vet close by. The nurses and doctors all swooned over him! He shared cuddles with them as they checked his heartbeat, a potential micro-chip, and any signs of distress. They even took him around to the boarded animals to socialize, and we heard he did very well (but didn't really care for the company of dogs;) The team reassured us he was stable enough to wait the weekend to see a Primary Care vet and ended up not charging us for the visit <3 Over the weekend, we bathed him, snuggled, de-wormed, and fed him all the food he could eat! When bathing him, we noticed a lump on his leg and figured since he let us touch it, wasn't limping, and didn't show any immediate signs of pain, that it would just be something to bring up to the vet on Monday.

On Monday, we went to see Dr. Squires at Crestview Animal Clinic at Tech Ridge. He was running a slight fever but tested negative for feline AIDS, leukemia, and tapeworms! Dr. S examined the lump on his leg and requested that x-rays be done. After, she informed us that he must have broken his right leg around the age of 2-3 weeks. The break healed, but incorrectly so the lump on his leg was actually a piece of bone that stuck out about half an inch. She suggested an amputation be necessary to the leg because it could cause chronic hip and joint arthritis, possibly puncture him if he played too hard, or fail to grow any larger than it is now.

Attached in the photos is a rough estimate of the cost of surgery. The amputation will take place around the time he needs to be neutered (2 birds, one stone) so that is also included in the detailed itemized receipt. We are asking for $2,700 to help out the little angel and improve his quality of life.

Thank you for taking the time to read this! Anything helps, even sharing this to friends, family, and animal lovers in your circle.
