Hi everyone,
Unfortunately, sweet boy Sandwich needs surgery, and it’s expensive.
Sandwich is 11 years old and was recently diagnosed with a tumor in his anal gland, and the cancer has spread to his lymph nodes. Luckily, it was caught during a routine exam last week and the tumors are still small. The surgeon feels optimistic, and thankfully his bloodwork has come back normal — but he will need surgery to remove them as soon as possible.
So far, we’ve already spent around $7,000 on testing, ultrasounds, and vet visits. The next steps will involve surgery and additional treatment costs, and the total is expected to be significant. The estimated total cost is around $20,000. We’re paying what we can out of pocket, but any help truly makes a difference.
On the plus side, sandwich shows no signs of illness. He’s still super energetic and wants to play and eat all the food and talks to us regularly like we can understand what he’s saying. We were very shocked to find out his cancer diagnosis, to say the least. The tumor was only discovered during a routine vet appointment (get your dogs anal glands expressed, if you haven’t done so recently!)
Asking for help is not something either of us feels totally comfortable with, but Sandwich means the world to us, and we’re doing everything we can to make sure he gets the best care possible. Any support — whether that’s donating, sharing this page, or simply sending good thoughts — truly means a lot.
We’ll keep everyone updated throughout the process.
Thank you so much for the love and support, and please give your pets an extra hug.
