Help Sandrine complete her Masters in biodiversity in Rwanda

I have been working with tropical ecology and biodiversity conservation in Rwanda since 1990, and today, I am fundraising for a young Rwandan woman who is trying to finish her Masters in Conservation Biology & Natural Resource Management in Rwanda. She is studying orchids in Rwanda, and is one of the very few botanists and blossoming taxonomists in the country, and female at that! I believe she has tremendous potential. She needs help paying for her registration fees so she can graduate and go onto her next career steps. Here is her message:

Hello, my name is Sandrine Uwase, and I am a passionate conservation scientist pursuing a Master’s degree in Biodiversity Conservation and Natural Resource Management at the University of Rwanda. My journey is driven by a deep commitment to protecting our planet’s rich biodiversity and ensuring that future generations inherit a world teeming with life and natural beauty.
As an early career conservation scientist, climate change negotiator and researcher, my work focuses on the intersection of science and policy, addressing critical global challenges. I am currently conducting impactful research on plant biodiversity, particularly the diversity of orchids in Rwanda. This work not only contributes to species conservation but also supports the protection of fragile ecosystems in the face of climate change.
In addition to my research, I am dedicated to teaching and mentoring students at the University of Rwanda, sharing my knowledge, and inspiring the next generation of environmental leaders. I currently serve as the coordinator for the National Herbarium of Rwanda. I believe education and collaboration are essential for achieving sustainable solutions for biodiversity conservation.
However, I am facing financial constraints that threaten my ability to complete my Master’s program. The tuition fees for my final year amount to $2,350, and I need your support to achieve this milestone. By contributing to my education, you are investing in a future where biodiversity is protected and celebrated through innovative research and community-driven action, and young women are supported to contribute to this important work.
Your support will enable me to:
• Finalize my Master’s degree and further my research on Rwanda’s incredible plant biodiversity.
• Contribute to policy discussions and strategies for climate resilience and biodiversity conservation.
• Train and mentor future conservationists to create a ripple effect of positive change.
Every contribution, no matter the size, brings me closer to my dream of becoming a leading conservationist and advocate for sustainable development. If you cannot donate, sharing my story with others who care about education, biodiversity, and climate action would mean the world to me.
Thank you for believing in my vision and for helping me turn my passion into impactful action. Together, we can protect the beauty and diversity of our natural world.
